My Perry Township Project

Now that the worst part of my year is over, it is time to get on with life. If you didn't know I own a Schoolhouse that was built in 1857 and it remained a school until the 1920/21 school year. Did you know that the school years back then only had 90 days? Most of the children had to help with harvest back then. I have been researching the history of the pioneer schools in my area. I also grew up in this house. My daddy started a remodel and got sick and the house has sat for 20 years unfinished. It is in sad, sad shape. I need a miracle that is for sure. So off to the reason for this post. My Perry Township Project has begun. I got hooked on history when I bought the house from my daddys' estate. The abstract is very vague, why oh why didn't our pioneer ancestors keep better records. Anyway my project has grown from just a timeline/scrapbook on the house and its past occupants to: (Are you ready?) Include finding my students (even if its a grave), the history of the school system in Perry Township, the houses in Mt Pleasant documented as to age/owners (you get the idea), the history of The prairie creek reservoir, Mt Pleasant, New Burlington, Medford and various other villages in the township, I will also document some oral histories as I receive them. WHEW! Did my research grow or what? Eventually I will work into forming the Perry Township Historical Society and museum. I hope! My main focus is to fix the house up so I can live in it again. I have 2 of my granddaughters to raise and I want them to go to county schools. I will be updating all that I learn as I go, it will make for some interesting posts in the future. I can't wait, Can you?

Loss and Death

I haven't posted in a few weeks, I apologize. The latter part of March thru the first 2 weeks of April are hard on me. Three years ago March 28 my hero went home to Jesus. I am and always have been a big daddys girl and his passing is still very tough for me. His birthday is the 10th of April and Easter was his favorite holiday. I have been a mess the last week. Alot of people tell me that it gets easier but I don't see it. He would call me everyday, several times a day in fact. Sometime he would call in the middle of a project, but I would always stop and chat. I miss that. I have loads of memories and I ended up with the house I grew up in, that kinda takes some of the sting out of it. So I guess it is "getting easier". Back to the reason for my post. I was reading a blog the other day and I won't name it as I don't have permission, but anyway I read this blog religiously. Her ex husband was in the last stages of colon cancer. She wrote about how their boys were dealing with the illness their dad had and his limited time left here on Earth. He died the other day and it brought back my grief and tons of memories of hospital visits and such for my dad. My blog today is in tribute to my dad and the loss I have had to endure. Rest in peace Daddy I love you and I miss you everyday. Your little monkey, Kellie

Crown bottle night light

I know two posts in one day what is wrong with me? Project 2 with my nifty new glass and ceramic hole cutter. I told you love love love this bit.

Beer bottle incense holders

I got a fabulous new toy. A glass and ceramic hole cutter that fits on my drill. I love love love this drill bit. So far I have mastered hole cutting LOL. The key is to have cool running water, approach at an angle and light pressure. Press hard and it will crack, don't ask me how I know. I just do. I even got a perfect hole in an old Pepsi bottle. Here is the first project using my new glass and ceramic hole cutter. Don't mind the pic background, the best light for pictures is beside the door, and beside the door the only thing I have there is the printer. Hey, don't judge me,  you learn to deal with what ya got LOL. Don't you just love those blue bottles. I'm going to have to get my husband drunk so I can have more bottles. Next mission to score an endless supply of bottles HMMMMMMMMMMMM.......

How to measure a doggie for a coat

I know I said last week. I just havent had time and Im not real sure about this blog thing. I am trying. Please bear with me. Ok so let's get started. The measurements I took were: around the neck making sure to add some clearance for movement. You will want it about as tight as a collar but some overhang for velcro. I found that 2" pieces of velcro worked best, so the doggie garment didn't shift around while being worn. I measured around the widest point of the mid-section for the "chest" measurement. Make sure to add a few inches for overlap for the velcro again 2" is good. You want it to fit snug but not confining. Measure the length from the collar to right above where the tail starts. You can make it shorter in length if needed for boy doggies, if you know what I mean. You really need to take this into consideration when placing your belly straps on your pattern. I also took a length measurement across the shoulders of the doggies to get the side to side length, boy or girl this measurement doesn't matter. I took a piece of brown paper bag and transferred my measurements. I folded the paper in half and cut out my pattern so both sides were identical. I am sorry I can't add photos of my pattern. When I get the pdf figured out I will update this post with my pattern. My model is a chihuahua, her chest measurement was 14" and length from neck to tail was 16". My pattern will fit small dogs and you can cut it in half both ways and add enough paper to compensate for your doggie measurements. Any questions please contact me and I will get back with you as soon as possible. Thanks for reading! Peace and Love be with you always

New Doggie!!!!!!!!! Here she is!!

Let me introduce Mimi to blogland.......She is a rescued Chihuahua. I put in for her and I got her, I'm so happy. I lost my baby(doggie) last year :(  She came pre-named and since my grandkids call me mimi too it was just fate. Mimi is perfect therapy for me, I loved her before I met her. She will be the focus of my first tutorial. I thought long and hard about which one of my little crafty things I was gonna do a tutorial on, and BAM it hit me. See her little coat? I made it pattern and all !!!!! She's a short haired chihuahua and needed something for cold weather. We can't have her being cold now, can we. Being the crafter that I am I knew I could make something. I looked online and there just wasn't much to find a tutorial or pattern for doggie clothing. So .... I upcycled an old sweatshirt for the lining and bandana fabric for the outershell. I will show you how I measured her and made my own pattern. This weekend I will be making a few more coats for Mimi and I will take pics as I go and TRY to make a tutorial out of it. It will be my first EVER, Please be kind. Peace and Love be with you
